Privacy and what is stored

The calculators on this site run inside your browser, and the numbers you type into them are never sent to a server.

Calculators stay in your browser

The position-size and margin calculators are scripts that run on your own device. The lot size, account balance, price and leverage cap you enter are used to do the arithmetic on the page and are not transmitted anywhere. Nothing you type into a calculator is stored by the desk or attached to a message.

This matters for a reader working out, for example, the margin on a 0.10-lot gold position at the applicable cap, which comes to about $85.50. That figure is produced on your device from the inputs you supply. It is not logged, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

Broker cookies and the limits of this page

When you follow a link from this site to a broker, the broker sets its own cookies and handles your data under its own privacy policy, which is separate from this one and which you should read. The desk does not control what a broker collects once you are on its site, including anything tied to an affiliate link.

The desk does not ask for your ID, your M-Pesa number, your account balance or your broker login, and you should not send them. If a message claims to come from this desk and asks for any of those, treat it as false. The only address the desk uses is editor@nairobiboardke.com.

The four kinds of cookie this site can set and what each one does

Nairobi Board can set four kinds of cookie: strictly necessary cookies that keep the page working, preference cookies that remember choices such as display settings, analytics cookies that count visits in aggregate, and affiliate cookies that record that a broker link was followed. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent because the site cannot function without them. The other three are optional, and you can refuse them without losing access to any calculator or guide on the site. No cookie on this site carries your name, your M-Pesa number or any trading figure.

Preference cookies remember small choices so you do not have to repeat them on every visit. Analytics cookies collect counts and timings, not identities, and are used to see which pages are read and which are abandoned. Affiliate cookies are set only when you click a link to a broker and are used to attribute that click if you later open an account. Each kind has a different lifetime, and the lifetime depends on the purpose: a preference cookie may last months, while an affiliate cookie typically lasts days to weeks. You can clear any of them from your browser settings at any time.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser's privacy settings, and doing so will not stop the calculators from working because they do not depend on cookies. Blocking analytics cookies means your visit is not counted, which is fine. Blocking affiliate cookies means a broker may not be able to attribute your visit, but it does not change what you pay or what you are offered. The site does not use cookies to build advertising profiles or to follow you across unrelated websites. When you clear cookies, the next visit starts with no stored preferences.

What Nairobi Board stores on its own servers and what it never receives

Nairobi Board stores only the technical data needed to serve pages and keep the site running: standard web-server logs that record the requested URL, the time of the request, the response status and a truncated IP address. It does not store your name, email, phone number, M-Pesa details, trading account numbers or any figure you type into a calculator. The calculators run entirely in your browser, so the numbers never reach our servers. If you send a support email, that message and your reply address sit in the mailbox only for as long as it takes to answer you.

The site never receives your M-Pesa statement, your broker login, your deposit history or your open positions. Funding a broker account with M-Pesa happens between you and that broker, not through Nairobi Board. We do not operate a client portal, so there is no account on this site to hold your personal data. The only personal data we could hold is what you choose to put in an email to us, and you decide how much that is. Anything you type into a calculator field stays on your device and is discarded when you close or refresh the tab.

Server logs are kept for a short operational window and then rotated out; the exact retention depends on the hosting provider's log settings. We do not build user profiles from those logs, and we do not combine them with any other data. The logs exist to diagnose errors and block abusive traffic, not to identify individual readers. Because the IP address in a log is truncated, it cannot be used to single you out. If you use a VPN or a shared connection, even that truncated address is not uniquely yours.

The rights a reader has over their data and the exact steps to use them

A reader can ask what personal data Nairobi Board holds, ask for a copy, ask for a correction, ask for deletion, and object to analytics or affiliate tracking. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email you sent us, so a request usually concerns that mailbox. To use a right, email us from the address you used before and state what you want: access, correction, deletion or an objection to tracking. We will confirm what we hold and act on the request; if we hold nothing, we will tell you that plainly rather than ask for more information.

You do not need to give a reason to object to analytics or affiliate cookies. The simplest way to exercise that objection is in your browser: block third-party cookies or clear them after a visit. That takes effect immediately and does not require us to do anything. For a deletion request on an email you sent, write from the same address and ask us to delete the correspondence; we will remove it from the mailbox. We may need to keep a minimal record if a legal obligation requires it, and we will say so if that applies. There is no fee for any of these requests.

A request about data held by a broker must go to that broker, not to Nairobi Board, because we do not hold your account data. The broker entity serving Kenya is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA — not by the CMA of Kenya, so its complaint route runs through its own regulators rather than the CMA. If your concern is about this site, email us first and we will answer. If you are not satisfied, you can raise the matter with the relevant data-protection authority in Kenya; we will cooperate with a lawful request. Keep your request specific so we can answer it quickly.

The third parties that can see a request and what each one receives

Three kinds of third party can see part of a request to Nairobi Board: the hosting provider that serves the page, the analytics provider that counts visits, and the broker whose link you follow. The hosting provider sees the request in order to return the page and keeps short-lived logs. The analytics provider receives aggregate counts and timings, not your name or your calculator inputs. The broker receives the referral only when you click its link, and from that point its own privacy policy governs what it collects. No other third party is given access to reader data by this site.

The broker entity that serves Kenya is the one that receives a referral click, and that entity is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA — not by the CMA of Kenya. That licensing point matters for privacy because the broker's data handling is governed by its own regulators, not by the CMA. Once you are on the broker's site, its cookies, its account-opening forms and its M-Pesa funding flow are outside our control. We do not pass your email address or any identifier to the broker; the referral is a click record, not a data handover. Read the broker's privacy notice before you open an account.

The analytics provider is configured to receive counts and page timings only, and it does not receive the figures you type into a calculator because those figures never leave your browser. The hosting provider does not receive them either. If you send us an email, your email provider and ours will see the message in transit, as with any email. We do not sell reader data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers. The list of third parties is short by design: fewer parties means fewer places where a request can be seen.

How long each kind of data is kept and what actually deletes it

Server logs are kept for a short operational window and then rotated out; the exact period depends on the hosting provider's settings. Emails you send us are kept only while your question is open and for a short period afterwards, then deleted. Calculator inputs are never stored, so there is nothing to delete: closing or refreshing the tab removes them. Cookies expire on their own schedule, and clearing your browser storage deletes them immediately. No archive of reader data is kept beyond these windows, and there is no backup of calculator inputs because they never reach a server.

Deletion happens in three ways: automatic rotation for logs, manual deletion for email correspondence once a query is closed, and browser clearing for cookies and local storage. You control the third one directly, and you can trigger it at any time without asking us. For the first two, you can ask us to delete sooner, and we will do so unless a legal obligation requires a short retention. A deletion request does not need a reason. Once an email is deleted it is removed from the mailbox, and it is not moved to a separate archive for later use.

Affiliate cookies expire on a schedule set by the broker or the affiliate network, typically days to weeks, and clearing your browser removes them sooner. Preference cookies last until they expire or you clear them. Analytics cookies are short-lived and carry no identifier that we can tie to a person. Because the lifetimes are set by different parties, the exact number of days depends on the cookie in question rather than on a single site-wide rule. You can inspect each cookie's expiry in your browser's developer tools if you want the precise date.

Traffic counts and local storage

The site keeps only aggregate traffic counts: how many visits a page receives, in total, without tying a visit to a person. These counts are used to see which pages are read and which are ignored. They are not used to identify anyone, and the desk does not sell or share them.

Local storage in your browser holds your own preferences, such as a setting you chose on a calculator, so the page behaves the same way when you return. That data stays on your device. Clearing your browser storage removes it, and the site continues to work without it.

Affiliate tracking is stated plainly: what a click records and what it does not

Nairobi Board earns a commission from some brokers when a reader follows a link and opens a funded account. That is the affiliate relationship, stated plainly. When you click a broker link, an affiliate cookie or tracking parameter records that the click came from this site. It does not record your name, your M-Pesa number, your deposit amount, your trades or your account balance. The broker knows a visit was referred; it does not receive a profile of you from us. The commission is paid by the broker and does not change the price you see.

Affiliate tracking exists so the broker can confirm that a visit originated here. It is not used to set your spread, your leverage or your account conditions. Those are set by the broker under the entity that serves Kenya, and they depend on the broker's own terms, not on how you arrived. We do not receive a copy of your account statement, your deposit history or your trading results. If you prefer not to be tracked, you can block affiliate cookies or open the broker's site directly in a new tab; the guides and calculators remain fully available either way.

The commission arrangement does not buy a favourable mention. Pages describe what a cost consists of and what it depends on rather than praising a number we were not given. No broker pays for a spread figure, a leverage figure or a minimum deposit figure to be stated on this site, because those numbers are not stated as promises. If a page mentions a broker, it is because the platform and entity details are relevant to a Kenyan reader, not because a payment was made for the mention. The affiliate disclosure sits alongside the link, not buried in a footer.

FAQ

Common questions

What information does Nairobi Board collect when I visit?

We collect what a normal website log records, such as pages viewed, approximate location and browser type, plus anything you type into the contact form. We do not ask for your M-Pesa number, your broker login or your ID, and you should never send those to us.

Do you store payment details or M-Pesa information?

No. The site does not process payments, so there is no reason for us to hold card or M-Pesa details. If you fund a trading account, that transaction happens between you and the broker, and its records sit with them under their own privacy terms, not with this desk.

Are cookies used on the site?

The site may use cookies for basic functionality and for measuring which pages are read. They are not used to build a trading profile of you. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, and the explanatory pages will still load; only some convenience features may stop working.

Will my contact message be shared or sold?

No. Messages are read by the editorial team to answer the query or log a correction. We do not sell contact details or pass them to brokers as leads. If a correction is published, we quote the substance of the issue, not your personal details, unless you ask to be credited.

How long are messages and logs kept?

It depends on the purpose: correspondence about a correction is kept while the correction record exists, and ordinary server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and basic statistics. We do not promise a fixed retention period, but we do not keep data longer than the reason for holding it.
